Ramadan

Ramadam

Why is Ramadan celebrated?
Ramadan is celebrated because it is special. Ramadan is celebrated because it gives lucky people a taste of hunger and thirst so they can better appreciate the hardship faced by poorer people. Experiencing these sacrifices is meant to help Muslims sympathise and empathise with less fortunate people. Ramadan is also meant to be a time of cleansing where by self restraint and discipline we are cleared of our sins.

When and how Ramadan is celebrated
Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar, and the month in which the Quran was revealed. Ramadan is the holiest of months in the Islamic calendar, and fasting in this month is one of the Five Pillars of Islam. The month is spent by Muslims fasting during the daylight hours from dawn to sunset. Fasting during this month is often thought figuratively to burn away all sins.

What special meals are served during Ramadan? Some meals mostly contain fresh fruits, vegetables, and halal meats.  Breads, soups, fresh fruits and vegetables are the perfect way to begin and end the daily fast. Dates are eaten at the end of the day to break the fast just like Muhammad ate dates; Dates are eaten because it is a tradition that they copy Muhammad.

If you had to give something up for Ramadan (i.e. for a whole month) what could it be?
I would give up meet and clothing because I would like to have an excuse to walk around naked. I would also give up meet because I need a good excuse to become vegetarian. Having Ramadan as an excuse would keep me motivated and determined to complete the month long fast.

What steps or procedures could you put in place to do this?
I would chant under my breath and watch disturbing video clips on how they slaughter animals to make me feel sorry for the animals and not eat them. I would also inform my parent and family of my commitment so they can be supportive.
